that provides evidence of a “sharp racial divide” in STL county citizens’ perceptions of the Ferguson crisis. I mean, I believe we already know that racism exists in STL, but seeing these statistics makes me nauseous all over again. According to this survey….
65% of African-American county residents believe Darren Wilson acted unjustly when he ended Brown’s life while 62% of white residents believe the shooting death of Brown was justified.
71% of African-American residents responded "yes," when asked if Wilson should be "arrested and charged with a crime", while 71% of white survey-takers believe the police officer should not be arrested or charged.
When asked whether Brown was "targeted because of his race," 77% of white respondents responded "no," while 64% of African Americans surveyed responded in the affirmative.
“Based on what the residents have seen and heard over the past month, 41 percent believe that “organized street gangs” bore the primary responsibility for the violence that erupted along West Florissant Avenue in the days following the Brown shooting.
But that number also split according to race, with 31 percent of African-Americans affixing the blame on gang members, compared to 46 percent of whites who did so.”
